Gong Li

Tim's Discussion Board: Xing Yi Quan: Gong Li

I've read that Yin Fu and Fu Chen Sung taught a martial art called Gong Li as a precurser to Ba Gua, and that Gong Li was similar to Hsing-I.

How similar to Hsing-I is Gong Li? Is it a complete system of self defense, or more of a suplementary system?

Were Master Fu's Tiger Fist and Leopard Fist forms part of Gong Li?

Thanks...

Michael

Hi Michael,
The Fu family teaches Gungli Quan, a standardized (Qingwu, maybe)long fist type form in it's early curriculum. Tiger and Leopard (and Connecting)Fists were forms made up as a part of the "Shaolin" section of his art.

Thanks Buddy:

From your description, the Gung Li taught by Master Fu was probably either the same as the Gong Li in N. Shaolin, or quite similar. I've seen pictures of that form in Yang Jwing Ming's book and it doesn't look at all like Xing-Yi, but it would be impossible to say without seeing the forms side by side.
