Is xingyi the ideal style to start with?

Tim's Discussion Board: Xing Yi Quan: Is xingyi the ideal style to start with?

What do you guys think?

Xingyi takes just five movements and fully developes them. There aren't a lot of other moves to learn. The 12 animals are just elaborations of the five fists. With so few moves to concentrate on the student can pursue quality as opposed to quantity. It seems starting this way allows the student to go deeper sooner.

Would it be better for a beginner in the neijia to learn xingyi as a basis for further study? Tim, what do you think?

Xing Yi will get you laid. Chicks dig Xing Yi guys. That's why it's the Betty's perferred internal method. His favorite element is the horizontal humpty dumpty pile driver fist in Xing Yi. Chicks dig it. With that horizontal humpty dumpty fist I show them a Fa Jing or two, yeah baby...

Don't be fooled. Xing Yi is tough. It might be "simpler" from a movement perspective. No long winded fuc&in three thousand movement forms and sh*t, but you'll sweat your balls off and your legs will fuc&in scream in agony if you do it right. Oh yeah, this is internal, you're supposed to feel your energy and all that bullsh&t. I must do it wrong. But I'll knock your friggin head in.

Bottom line, the best fighters were Xing Yi guys. (I can hear the Tai Chi and Bagua guys starting to whimper now...)

If your smart, you'd do Xing Yi.

Dave,
I believe that correct practice of Xing Yi Quan will yield fighting ability faster than most other Chinese martial arts, Internal or External. But all the Internal arts are based on a few movements which are subsequently expanded upon in variations. With a good teacher and hard practice, basic fighting ability should come within a few months of practice in any of the arts.
