Bear Si ba and power development?

Tim's Discussion Board: Xing Yi Quan: Bear Si ba and power development?

Hey Tim,
I'm curious about the four animal si ba routines. I learned the chicken and dragon recently and just started learning the monkey si ba, but was told the last one...Bear...was pretty difficult. There was some mention about stomping, a different type of power development and some similarity to Baji chuan.
Any insights?

There are many similarities between Baji and Xing Yi, though I feel XY has more depth and breadth. I am not familiar with the Bear Si Ba though. My understanding is that different school used different animals in various Si Ba routines. For instance the one Tim taught us was with the Tuo and Chicken. In the Chicken you drop your weight, which may be along the same lines as you are speaking in regards to the stomping.

Yeah, you might be right. it might be like that. I have no idea...we do something in our chicken Si Ba as well where the wt drops I'm sure its similar.
I guess I'm assuming this bear thing is different b/c my teacher mentioned the difficulty of the stomps and how they can be inherently dangerous, but he never mentioned that kinda thing before.
he proceded to describe (in Chinese) something about the neck and spine rattling the brain after the shake/stomps. Then he said that XY neck aligment will prevent anything bad and that the power was similar to Baji. I don't know, are Baji practicioners are as fanatical as XY people about head/neck alignment?

Losman,

I've learned the Dragon and Chicken Si Ba Chui, I've never seen the Bear version.

A lot in Baji depends on alignment, but then again don't most styles?? Stomping is usually dangerous to the knees, not really the neck spine area, but could be I suppose. Not sure what you mean by the XY neck alignment though?
Thanks
Jake
