Hi,
I've often read about the old Xing yi Quan masters and their ability to withstand great physical punishment from opponents and treat it as if it were nothing. Is this just a myth or does this training truly exist in the Xing yi curriculum?
Thanks.

My freakin' uncle scamooch could take a beating too. Of course, he's dead.

Oh yeah, Thai fighters take a beating too. Oh yeah, they don't last long professionally either.

Let's see, if I do Xing Yi can I take a beating from my opponent and think it's nothing? Ya, if you are one of those internal poopoo guys that don't know how to freakin' hit...Otherwise, no magic formula. Get into shape. You recoup from beatings better.

I think the best thing to do is - get out of the way of the shot.

Makes sense.

There are some body conditioning practices in the Xing Yi training, striking the arms and other parts of the body together etc. This type of training is more popular in the Ten Animal Xin Yi Quan styles. In the Five Element styles, learning how to absorb and roll with a blow is more common.

The body can be toughened to a certain extent, and some people are more resistant to trauma than others, but hard blows will always cause some trauma and injury, no matter how one trains.
