Tim,

I am a long-time jujutsu practitioner and a "not so long-time" Xing Yi practitioner. I am very interested in Xing Yi groundfighting methods. Now if I am not mistaken you have been instrumental in publishing some of the best Xing Yi books around (in English). Is there anything published in Chinese (illustrated!) on Di Long Jing that you know of?

Great Site and best regards,

Johan

Hi Johan,
Unfortunately, I don't know of any books in Chinese that have illustrations of the Di Long Jing. Several works that include ancient texts mention it, but none include the techniques. I was shown the basic techniques by one of my teachers. They are similar to the groundfighting techniques in Di Tang Quan (Ground Boxing). They are more along the lines of defending against an opponent when you are on the ground and he is standing. There are a few basic escapes from inferior positions, but the techniques, (a least the one's I learned), while effective, were relatively limited.

Hi Tim,

Thank you for such a prompt response! It is too bad nothing exists on the subject. Have you ever thought about publishing an article or small book on the subject yourself? My quess is you are eminently qualified to undertake something like that. Such a book would not only be valuable for Xing Yi practitioners it could also help to prevent the loss of a part of the style and that is important. Once lost it will be gone forever.

Best Regards,

Johan Smits
