I understand Yiquan is a style based on Xingyiquan and that some even consider it a style of Xingyiquan. Grandmaster Wang was also trained in Baguazhang and Taijiquan. Is the essence of all three arts included in Yiquan? Are there palm-change like movements, the 13 energies/directions of taijiquan and the 5 elements and 12 animals present in Yiquan?

The major difference between Yi Quan and anything else is the way it is taught. In Yi Quan, we stand for about an hour in a mediative position. From that position we do the various movements that are equivalent to the movements of Tai Chi, Ba Gua and Xing Yi. But we do them one at a time, rather than as part of a complex form. I personally have really enjoyed it and know it has made me a better martial artist. It is slower moving, but it really teaches proper body mechanics. And I think it can be applied to anything. I recall a story about a student leaving Master Wang to study something else and Master Wang telling him something about it not mattering what style he practiced, as long as he used Yi Quan.

Yiquan is formless. It isn't about any fixed training methods or forms but more to do with harnessing the power of the CNS.Think of how an animal strikes and you will get an idea of what Yiquan is.

The greatest Yiquan practioner alive today is Steve Morris in the UK who,the day before his 61st birthday, finished off an international cage fighter in under two seconds.Morris dosen't call it Yiquan but rather MMA but if you look at what he's doing its exactly the same as Wang Xiangzhai but using a different method. Its certainly got nothing to do with what most people call MMA.

Yiquan's traditional training methods will help any martial artist improve.

I'd love to see footage of that match. Was it filmed?

The fight took place during a training session when Jenkins challenged Morris. It may well have been filmed but has never been released.I did speak to someone who was at the session and he said it was scary, apparently Morris sprang on him like an animal and he didn't even have time to react. He was taken to the ground and beaten semi conscious.Morris says he actually held back as he was concerned for the guys welfare.
