Praying Mantis Theory and Application
(Saturday December 2nd 1 – 4pm)
Discover why many consider Northern Praying Mantis (Bei Tanglang Chuan) one of the most relentless and agressive martial arts from China. Fast hands, quick kicks, deceptive footwork, coupled with devastating locks and throws make Mantis one of the most applicable traditional martial systems in today’s modern society.
In this seminar Jake will give a basic introduction to the fighting aspects of Plum Blossom and Six Harmonies Praying Mantis Boxing. Expect the following:

• Clear translation from theory to practice
• Fighting combinations that are applicable for any style
• Unlock hidden applications from your form
• Deepen your understanding of the Chinese Martial Traditions

No prior knowledge of Mantis is required, though those who have been exposed will certainly deepen their understanding of the art. As with all seminars offered at Three Harmonies this workshop is open to all levels, and stylists, and will be a “hands on” workshop.

Xing Yi Shuai Fa
(Sunday December 3rd 10am – 1pm)
One of the most underrated, and misunderstood aspects of Xing Yi boxing is the throwing methodology and application. In this short introductory seminar Jake will draw from his article in the latest issue of “Kung Fu Taichi” magazine to offer lessons on various throws found in Xing Yi and their combative principles.
From this seminar you can expect to walk away with a better understanding of the following:
• Why most throws are considered “Knock Downs” in Xing Yi
• The importance of the dead angle and it’s role in throwing
• Simple applications from the Five Elements as well as the Animal Forms, and empty hand sets.
• Whether you are a new student unlocking the secrets of your practice, or a seasoned teacher refreshing his memory you will find this information useful to your Xing Yi practice.

No forms will be taught, so no prior knowledge is needed. All the principles and applications that are presented will easily transfer into any and all styles.
An Introduction to Sun Taiji
(Sunday December 3rd, 2 – 5pm)
Sun Lu Tang is considered one of the best traditional boxers of all time, and developed Sun Taiji during the “Golden Years” of Chinese martial arts. Combining elements of Xing Yi, Bagua, and Wu Taiji, Sun considered his turn of the century development his “crowning achievement.”
80% of Taiji applications are grappling oriented, yet many practitioners fail to teach these aspects. In this seminar Jake will offer insight into some of the grappling aspects of Taiji practice and show why Taiji has always been considered a combat art, not just a “health art.”
Come experience Sun Taiji and learn:
• A general overview of the system
• Applications found in all styles of Taiji
• Principles of Taiji applied in modern day situations
• Unique aspects of Sun Taiji
