Classification of Kicks / Knees

Tim's Discussion Board: Xing Yi Quan: Classification of Kicks / Knees

Tim,
I have a general question I wanted to ask on the board for the benefit of all.
In Xing Yi, would it be proper to categorize the kicks/knees in the same manner as the fists in relation to the Five Elements. For example; standard Muay Thai round kick to the leg, would this be the expression of Heng Quan, horizontal power? Or a knee to the body, Dzuan Quan?
I was not sure how those things were approached since the only major kick in Xing Yi is from the Dragon form.
Any help?
Thanks
Jake

Kicks are not usually classified with the energies of the Five Elements.

There is an old adage in Xingyiquan about the art not having kicks but "stomps" (thrusting kicks done with follow through and the total body weight behind them).

The knee attacks are generally referred to as "crashing" into the opponent.

Thanks Tim. Do you recall the adage?

So would one refer to a knee as "Beng?"
Thanks
Jake
