Tim,Do each of the 12 animals have variations of all of the 5 elements? It seems that some animals, like tiger, is primarily a variation on pi chuan.

Robert,
No, each of the animal forms don't contain all of the Five Elements. The animal forms are variations of single Element forms (you're right, the Tiger is a double handed Pi Quan), or combinations of two or sometimes three Element forms. For example, the Water Skimmer uses the rising and falling energy of Pi Quan with the footwork and body method of Pao Quan. This is the original idea of the animal forms, to expand upon and combine the movements and energies of the Five Elements, with the 'intent' of a certain animal.

Tim,
What would be an example of an animal that combines three of 5 elements? I can think of several examples that combine pi chuan and pao chuan, such as tiger or eagle-bear. Maybe its just easier to see pi chuan in the 12 animals, but pi chuan appears to be more prevalent than heng chuan or zsuan chuan.

For example, the Chicken Form contains, Zuan Quan, Pi Quan, Beng Quan and Pao Quan. I'd agree that Pi Quan is the most prevalent Element in the Twelve Animals.
