Hello everyone.

I will be in Shanghai for a year starting this September and I have found a school called Longwu Gongfu which offers Xingyi Quan classes. However, they are only offered once a week, one hour per lesson.

Without intending to sound ignorant, is one hour a week really "enough" to truly begin learning this art, or is it more than enough for a beginner like me?

When I was very little I took Shotokan classes for a while, and I remember the dojo had class five days a week, so perhaps that has coloured my expectations on how often one should train when learning a martial art. That's why I'd appreciate your advice, as I realize the situation with Xingyi Quan might be very different.

well, from my experience teaching martial arts, unless it is a comercial school, 1 day a week sounds right , for a someone who is teaching, and also working a job and training himself. In this kinds of schools, the teachers aim is to teach you the basics, but expects you to practice outisde of class heavily. Even if he held classes 5 days a week, it is imperative that you train outside of class.

personally, I train my XingYi 3-4 days a week for 1 hour and a half, sometimes 2. Then on the other days I teach or work on my Muay thai
