Hello Harry,
By 'shapes' do you mean the Twelve Animal Forms?
The Twelve Animals forms are the Dragon, Tiger, Monkey, Horse, Water Skimmer, Chicken, Hawk, Swallow, Snake, Tai Bird, Eagle and Bear.
The Shan Xi stles in general are characteristically done in a relatively 'soft' manner, there is alot of movement in the waist and the power is generated in waves from the hips. In addition, the techniques are based on absorbing incoming force rather than stopping it and countering with the natural movement which occurs during the neutralzation of the attack.
The key to the application of the techniques is the ability to 'stick' to the opponent.

The Shan Xi Xing Yi Quan I studied is from the same lineage. Song Hu Chen's student Dong Xiu Sheng taught Li Gui Chang. I learned from Li's student, Mao Ming Chun.
