Xing Yi for fighting

Tim's Discussion Board: Xing Yi Quan: Xing Yi for fighting
By Kelly Crofts-Johnson on Tuesday, April 01, 2008 - 01:46 am: Edit Post

Xing Yi Chuan Seminar.

This seminar will be the first of a monthly series. I intend it to be a seminar of training, not talking. So many seminars right now have little if any actual training. These seminars are characterized by hours of talking and theorizing. If you are lucky, you might actually break a sweat.
These new seminars will begin with a quick discussion about the history and philosophy of the style as well as my experience in it. After this intro, we will drill each of the five fists intensively with a quick discussion about the specifics of each fist beforehand. After everyone has a good feel for each fist we will go over several different applications for each fist. The applications will be drilled to the point where everyone can perform each application up to my standards. I will finish it with a freestyle demonstration of how one can use this style for self defense and fighting.
Many times you can go to a seminar and learn quite a lot. The problem however comes in remembering later. There will be a video camera recording us throughout the seminar. Over the next month, we will edit this footage into a condensed video that you can purchase for $20.
I do have limited space so please reserve your spot as soon as possible.

Being that I am new and I have never posted here before, I would like to introduce myself. I am a martial artist based out of Salt Lake City, Utah. I train under Master Cheng Tsang Lu. Currently I am training to start an MMA career in late August/early September. I do have a good deal of sparring experience as well as "classical" training. My goals are removing all the "crap" that surrounds the internal martial arts currently. I am by no means a master but I have uncovered certain "truths" within my training and I would like a chance to share them with everyone as well as learn from everyone. I have read the posts on this website for some time now and believe that this forum has a good deal of useful information readily available in it. Well thats about it, haha.

Welcome,
Jake

me and my fellow ninja will never allow you to reveal the "truths" of "internal" martial arts!

Jake: I train Hsing yi, Bagua, and Taiji with Master Cheng Tsang Lu. Thankyou for your welcome.

Robert: Why is a ninja practicing the internal martial arts, haha.

Cool. I thought you said you were doing MMA. Sorry for the confusion.
Where is Cheng Tsang Lu out of?
Jake

haha, because ninja's can do anything!!!

He was born and raised in Taiwan. He trained under Master Yin Chian Ho who moved to Taiwan from China after the communist take over.

No worries about the confusion. I am training for an MMA competition but I am not training MMA in the common use of the word. I suppose learning all three internal arts is somewhat of "mixed" martial arts, haha.

Hi Kelly,

Is this your school?
http://www.luhealthcenter.com/home/index.php

Are you going to be competing in a pro MMA event?

By Kelly Crofts-Johnson on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 - 05:19 pm: Edit Post

Richard that is Master Lu's school. He and his son run it. I am a student there.

I do not believe that the event I will first be competing in is pro. I do plan on entering the UCE(not UFC, its a local thing) when I am ready. Why do you ask?

Just curious. You mentioned Master Cheng Tsang Lu, so I looked him up and wanted to make sure I found the right school.

yes sir. his master also had a school up in Milwaukee. http://www.chinesekungfucenter.com/master.html

He originally had a school in Taiwan but then moved here with master lu.

so kelly are you still planning on not studying ground fighting in prep for your mma career?

By Kelly Crofts-Johnson on Friday, May 16, 2008 - 01:08 am: Edit Post

no i never was planning on that. I have been doing quite a bit of drilling on ground techniques lately to get ready for this tournament in June.

live groundfighting with the types of opponents you will be facing in mma? (most likly judo bjj or wrestling.)

By Kelly Crofts-Johnson on Thursday, May 29, 2008 - 02:50 am: Edit Post

I have been focusing on drilling mostly but I do roll with some bjj and wrestling guys a few times a week.

By robert on Friday, May 30, 2008 - 12:25 am: Edit Post

i bet they have some bjj or judo at your one of your local community centers, most guys you rol with arent going to teach you anything other then what you can pick up,usually they are more focused on trying to beat you
