So this is a vid of me sparring with my buddy using some tactics of hsing yi, bagua, and taiji. It was controlled yet full speed and power.

why did you switch your feet ?
why did you keep dropping your hands?
Why did you not go through your friend and put him on the ground?
Why did your friend not sweep you ?

I kept switching my feet because I can fight on both sides and with different people different tactics work better or worse.

I kept dropping my hands trying to get him to come at me.

I did not go through my friend and put him on the ground because this was completely a striking match like i stated in the vid before we started. We were on concrete and neither of us felt like getting thrown on it.

He did not sweep me for the same reason a boxer doesn't sweep the other boxer. The ruleset didn't go for that.

For some reason I did not do much sticking and adhering in this session. not sure why.

It looks like really bad steet kick boxing from two completely untrained guys.

It's very good a lot better than I could ever do bare knuckle (I cant even block or parry those punches well cause they are so much faster than gloves) and I have a couple of years of boxing/muay thai experience. here are some glvoed sparring vids of mine:

Hey thanks for sharring. Which one were you in the first? I boxed for about 3 months down in mexico on my honeymoon and it was a great experience. Im trying to get all of my finances in order to go back down again at the end of september for another six months. that would line me up for mike martello's beijing trip in july of next year which i am trying to get the money to go to as well. Boxing is a ton of fun and your ma can benifit a lot from it. Mostly you lose your fear of getting hit as much, haha because it is innevitable. I like doing gloved matches so you can hit the face as well, but i like bareknuckle for the realism of it.

You looked agile and quick.

an agile and quick person would have used the "edit" option to correct their post, rather than adding a second post. LOLAKC-K.

you should train with gloves, and punch full force.

also, props for actually putting your stuff out there.

another reason why i feel like grappling is more practical, easier to train in a more realistic setting.

and many time we see superb standup fighters who dont know how to respond to a rear naked choke, or a guillotine. its quite sad, becuase the fight will be over if you cant respond properly to these kind of attacks. plus they are much more dangerous in a real setting. getting choked is not fun, even if its just practice. you can easily accidentally kill someone or be killed from asphyxiation.

My buddy there has never trained before, but I do go full force with gear with guys that i train with. Both standing and ground grappling definatelly can be practiced realistically much easier. You definatelly need to have a well rounded skill set to be a good fighter. this is especially true in mma. The one thing i dissagree with ground grapplers about though is this idea that it is so much safer to practice. I dont even practice ground grappling as much as some people and i'm still feeling an arm crank from a good month ago, haha. this is a vid from the same day, after i talked with a few people.

How old are you Kelly? Just curious.

Your pain and injury have nothing to do with grappling, and everything to do with the people and method in which you roll. Of course with all contact sports their is an inherent risk of injury. But if one has good training partners, and is smart about how they roll, it is arguably the safest combat martial art to do!

kelly i am curious as to why you use such a wide stance , i find it hard to beleive that between that and you switching your feet that you dont get swept a lot.

Jake,
I turn 20 on the 28th of Oct. Which is the long way of saying i am 19 haha. True it is because it got cranked a little harder than it should have but that is inevitable i think. When you are rolling and going for something sometimes you just roll to far on accident or the guy doesn't tap soon enough etc. Not saying it is more dangerous but, i dont think it is without risks. I also think that striking can be practiced very efficiently, just look at mma guys. Some of the striking used in the cage is very high class and it is because of the training. Now to do so, you have to accept that you will get hurt sometimes, but if you are a cagefighter, that isn't a big deal anyway, haha.

Garrett stack,
I a wide stance to keep my root. For instance, when he came in at me at the begining really hard and i used the pi chuans to stop his forward momentum... if i didn't have a deep stance like that he would have overwhelmed me causing me to have to move back or to the side. also, it is a habit from when i spar and allow takedowns, throws, sweeps, etc. It gives me a strong root and as long as my legs are strong enough i can still move efficiently that low and wide. The only time i have had a problem being swept is when i am facing somebody who is more skilled than me at that particular aspect of fighting. I hope this better explains my motives, haha.
