This is a vid of the black taoist doing some freesparring with some martial brothers of his. It is not full on fighting but the power and speed are obviously there. The first guy i guess is a tkd/judo player. The second guy is a bjj instructor.

If you think he's awesome you should check out the Puerto Rican Taoist.

Or his cousin, Black Quaker.

"...It is not full on fighting but the power and speed are obviously there."

Where did you see that?

If you put gloves on a high school basketball player, it would probably look similar.

They look like very nice guys.

It looked like TKD sparring with poor clinching and grappling.

That wasn't a judo guy. Once clinched, he would of been on the floor in seconds.

They are headed in the right direction, but they need more skill work.

Power? Unless you are going full contact, it will not be evident.

"The second guy is a bjj instructor"

I'm interested, who is he and where did he get his BJJ blackbelt?

By Shane on Wednesday, November 05, 2008 - 12:43 pm: Edit Post

I like the clip and I like what I've seen of Black Toaist. They're going easy and he does a nice job of avoiding a couple of take downs.

I looks like they're having fun learning.

(Its worth mentioning that 15 years ago Bob#2 tried getting folks to call him 'The White Wiccan'. It didn't stick, nor did it instill the since of shock and wonder he'd expected.)

Yes he was a judo guy. Just because he is not as good as you sir doesn't mean he doesn't study it.

ah,he-he-he's a Tae Kwon Do instructor. Now his level of ability makes perfect sense. The school lists no BJJ classes. But check out these powerful examples:

Kelly, read your own research before you start posting it to support your assertions.

Richard Garcia : Personal Training
Fully certified JKD Instructor
Fully certified Instructor: Pilipino Knife Fighting
Black Belt Tae Kwan Do 4th Degree Black Belt
Lay Ordained Hollow Bones Rinzai Zen Order

aside from mispelling 'kwon' I'm find the HOLLOW BONES ordaination fascinating.

(and once you spend a few minutes in a real BJJ class, you'll be able to recognize the differences)

I did, he has an impressive resume, with no mention of ever having studied any BJJ.

It's best to check references before making claims, people will take you more seriously.

I just make false claims with no reference or facts about people who may or may not exist.

hell, I'll even create hypothetical characters and live through them vicariously.

That's how you keep it real.

"After spending many years studying traditional Korean martial arts I switched to Brazilian Jiu-jitsu under Marcos Santos and the Machado Jiu-jitsu organization. I also studied Sport Karate under Garth Binns as well as Filipino Arts and Jeet Kune Do. I had the prestigious honor of becoming a certified full instructor in these arts by Navy Seal hand to hand combat trainer Paul Vunak."

Not sure how you guys missed this. He did study it and he does teach it as well. It doesn't mention his ranking but go and look at the pics. You'll see him teaching bjj. I have also watched videos of him teaching, haha. Old boy teaches.

whats funny is this guy claims to have trained the traditional way for hours on end in China including simply training hitting a tree and geenrating power for like 2 hours straight for an extended period of time, and claims to have like 20 yrs experience. SO if he cant fight using these styles like they are meant to what does it say about ima and cma styles in general? In almost all fights the style dissapears and it turns into a slug fest where the bigger/heavier and more agressive guy wins anyway. Thats why ma is almost useless imo.

By Enforcer on Sunday, November 23, 2008 - 02:54 pm: Edit Post

I mean even in sport ma they always spar with ppl their own weight and have weight classes and dont fight to overcome bigger people. heck in one of the first ufcs a big agressive karate guy beat up a muay thai guy quickly who tried leg kicking him as he charged in. Its also funny how muay thai people think leg kicks are some sort of god's gift to humans and will stop any untrained opponent or something when it only pisses them off inr eality.

By Backarcher on Sunday, November 23, 2008 - 05:15 pm: Edit Post

"...even in sport ma they always spar with ppl their own weight..."

That is so untrue.

We all should be so lucky to have one or more guys our own size to train with in the gym.

Man, please tell me about all the MMA gyms where you train to come up with that theory.

It's often that guys don't have anyone within ten-fifteen pounds of their weight to train with.

Little guys suffer the most, as well as, heavyweights. Very few big guys have the will and desire to train that hard.

"...Its also funny how muay thai people think leg kicks are some sort of god's gift to humans..."

Where do you come up with these things?

By Enforcer on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 12:52 am: Edit Post

I am not talking about ma gymns, I am talking about boxing gyms where the coach wouldnt let ppl of different weights spar and because of liability issues he also always had to be there watching everytime someone wanted to spar. I never trained mma, only muay thai Judo, and boxing so my experience comes from that. Same thing in Judo, they awlays paired people of similar size at the end for the semis parring/sumo sessions they had.

By Enforcer on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 12:54 am: Edit Post

"Where do you come up with these things?"

experience. I trained at a muay thai gym (one of the best in the country called sytyadong) in pasadena and the coach one time was discussing with another guy how on the street people wont even know how to deal with a leg kick and its all you need to do, etc.
