I'm practicing Tzuann Chuan right now, the water element. And i'm puzzled at its simplicity. I know there is so much more to it, but it escapes me. I also know that this is the place to ask questions and build. You guys are very informative.

What are the main meridiean points struck during this technique? What are variations of applying Tzuann Chuan? How did the government wushu pop it? Whats the difference? Lets really get into it and break it down. Ya!

The way we were taught the Elements is that they were not so much individual strikes (Zuan Quan being only an uppercut for example) as methods of developing whole body power in a certain direction.

It might help you to think of Zuan Qaun as the power of the whole body being used in an 'upward' or 'rising' type force. Then you can develop the ability to use the force for all types of techniques, not only an upward strike with the fist.

In line with what Tim has written, you might consider the practice of the Five Elements as being a form of moving or stepping nei gong, where the emmphasis is on feeling rather than applying a particular technique.

This training starts after you have 'mastered' the basic standing requirements in the san ti and/or squatting monkey postures. The goal at least initially is to maintain/apply the skills gained in the standing practice to the stepping practice to become aware of the different forces invovled within each element.

Once you have gained some proficiency and can demonstrate these basic skills, you can then try to discover how these 'elementary' forces are contained within the more complex animal forms.

I dig what you guys are saying completely. We are standing in the santi and various postures practically every day. And with the exception of myself we havent done Tzuann Chuan with full power yet. Only feeling and breathing. And now with the upward/rising power in mind. Thanks for the sound advice, I feel blessed.

Hopefully others can come foward also and
post their experiences and break throughs in Tzuann Chuan here.
