How do you "Pi" your "chuan"?

Tim's Discussion Board: Xing Yi Quan: How do you "Pi" your "chuan"?

Just a beginner with a piece of mind here. I have noticed lots of variations within Pi Chuan. Some people start out facing forward, some face 45 degrees. Some people raise one arm to nose level first before they step forward and split with their back hand, some people raise both arms. Some people have their palm stand up vertically and some horizontally. Some people even walk the zig-zag pattern and most people do it on a straight line. SO..............How do your Pi your Chuan??? (incluing your lineage would be greatly appreciated!)

I'll use cardinal directions to help describe the opening of Splitting Form (from what is either Shanxi-province Xing-Yi Quan taught to me by Tim, or Habei-province Xing-Yi Quan taught to me by Tim's instructor, Luo at a seminar at Tim's place a few years back... or I've mixed 'em together... I've been bounced around so much my memory's not so good... so reader beware):

Left foot on north-south line, toes pointing north; right heel behind & touching left heel; toes of right foot pointing north-east; hands cupped together (palms up) at waist; torso facing north-east.

Raise both arms (palms up) semi-circularly up & out at 45-degrees from your center (that's 45-degrees forward of the plane which passes through your shoulders).

Bring hands in close to each other (palms inboard -- facing each other) at about forehead height (as if touching an imaginary pole).

Hands "slide down" imaginary pole (palms down) as torso twists to north & hips sink low...

...but as hands near waist-level, they fist (palms down) & torso twists to east-by-south-east (or is it just to the east -- I forget... just twist to your right side beyond the starting position).

Now twist torso back to north as right fist twists palm up & rises while left fist twists palm up at inside of right elbow;...

...then left (lead) foot steps forward, toed-out (toes pointing north-west) as left fist travels over the right forearm & as right fist twists palm down & pulls back to waist.

That's the opening...

You're now ready to move your rear foot (your right foot) forward & beyond your lead (left) foot (to end up in a right-lead San-Ti posture) as your right fist travels over the entire length of your left forearm... going past your left hand... then overturns to either strike hammer-fist-like or open-handed DOWNWARD.

My memory of the turn-around is so poor that I won't bother you with it... (I was focusing on certain aspects of the form, so I neglected the turn around big-time... so sorry).
