hi tim, posted a thread on jarek's board about luo's school in taiwan, and luo's wife sent me an email. she specifically said that luo's classes included daily sparring. then someone emailed me after reading the post and said the exact opposite. i'm kinda confused.

Hi Mo,

I mentioned that the training is well-balanced and includes sparring, drills, forms, and body work. I didn't mention day-to-day. Each class is different. It also can vary seasonally. You were concerned that it was a health-only version and I can tell you it's not, and I stand by that.

Best wishes,

Beth

Hi again--

Sorry, one more note. If you want to spar every day, do it. The class structure assumes you will be working outside of class a lot. There have been guys who sparred every time after the official end of class, and they got good coaching. Luo Laoshi stays after class to answer questions, talk strategy or history, or coach. It's very much a class that depends on your own self-motivation. The after-class time can be *very* productive if you make it.

(p.s.--I haven't attended the class in more than a year, and I know there are more short-timers there now (visiting for a few months), but since a big sack of new protective gear has taken up residence in the trunk of the car, I don't think the martial side of class has gone the way of the dodo bird since I was attending.)

Best regards,

Beth

hi beth,

sorry about the phrasing =) my mistake... somebody just sent me an email that the martial side DID go the way of the dodo bird =) i realise that, unfortunately, in the martial arts world, people slag other schools. i'm really preoccupied to tell the truth since i'm pretty much a poor bloke with little money =) thanks for the clarification =) hope to see you guys soon

Hey Mo, No problem. I just wanted to say, especially after checking with my husband (since I am a bit out of touch with the current class), that it is incorrect that the school does not teach fighting anymore. A lot of the fighting training is not really opened up for observers, but I assure you that I am being honest with you to the best of my knowledge. Take care...
