When you fight somebody that is shady

Like say a homeless crack addict in San Francisco is hassling you and invading your space and you are with your mom or family. You know you have to hit fast and hard or it will escalate. Do you finish them after they fall and either keep stomping them or put them in an arm bar and break their arm after they fall do they can't get up and hurt you or your family with a knife, or do you give them mercy and a chance to back down after they are decked from your strikes and maybe a stomp or two? This is the type of stuff that is in my head all the time when someone suggests going to a big or dangerous city.

I would feel really guilty and bad but at the same time do you really want to risk them stabbing your family? I was in such a situation once but the bum ended up backing off after I tried shoving him with my shoulder but almost still lashed at me in San francisco.

I guess it depends on how real the threat is.
If you were a homeless crack addict and asked a passerby for change would you expect them to hit, stomp, break your arm?

If you don't do things you might feel bad or guilty about- you never have to feel bad or quilty.

Here's something cool-

Dont fight homeless people bro, cmon, most homeless people are not looking for a fight anyway. Just avoid them. Basic stuff.

Here is how I took care of the last homeless guy that had the nerve to hassle me. I bought him some dinner and we drank beers together. Luckily I didn't have to "keep stomping" him or "put him in an arm bar and break his arm." After about 5 beers and a meatball sandwich each he gave up and decided not to stab my family. That's the kind of stuff that can happen in a big and dangerous city...So be careful and always carry a unopened can of Miller High Life and a meatball sandwich and you will probably be ok.

it was 4 beers and the sandwich was cold. But I appreciated it.

Tim, can you put up a dedicated posting category for enforcer with a title like 'sanguinary musing' or something to that effect.

Problem is, anyone that might be inclined to post in such a category would most likely not know what "sanguinary" meant in the first place.

I see your hobo with a knife and raise you a hobo with a shotgun:

Put the category next to 'sanguine musing' and watch a social experiment unfolding. Won't catch Bob#2 though; his posts are sanguinely sanguinary.

Robert, but some desperate ones on crack are if you don't give them money. They try to intimidate to get money from people sometimes.

Been there, done that. As far as im concerned, let them try, i always have a can of whoopass ready to go. Though I dont have a problem with giving out some money to people who need it, when I can. I just put the money on a surface where they can get it so they arent getting that close anyway.
