Thanks, but withhold judgement until my body slams the pavement. In the words of Jim Carey after pushing someone out of a window (Batman Forever), "...Ooooh, a little rough on the landing, he may have to settle for the bronze!"

I think one problem with the Japanese arts is really a Japanese problem. There is a great sense of hierarchy in Japan. Maybe the attitude is that only the real worthy should have the whole system, or the keys to it? If it takes 8 to 10 years just to become a sushi-chef (yeah that is correct. They spend four years just cooking rice!), then what shouldnt it take to learn a whole system of martial arts, or really learn the "secrets" of it? This Japanese attitude has been taken over by commercial teachers of CMA and now almost everyone is using raduation system and colorful sashes. I think it is really sad. But for japanese, this is a quite natural way of teaching/learning.

I am thinking of that I-cant-remeber-his-name-old-judo-master thats on the net.I think it was posted here. When the ol man defended himself in the end of the vid, it didnt look so much as the Judo you are used to, no, it looked very much as TJQ and other IMA.

So maybe the "issues" or differences between IMA and JMA is not only about style vs individual. Maybe it has just as much to do with another thinking about teaching/learning, in the sense that what often is revealed for the public is only one small piece of the pie? Maybe many of these styles that we think looks much more simple really has a great depth? Is it wise to judge something Japanese in a Western (or even in a Chinese) manner, when so many issues really has to do with great cultural differencies?

I've heard such good things about Bas Rutten...
but from this clip it's obvious the cat has absolutely no fighting ability (except in slo-mo)
