Oh man,
You want to this can of of worms? It's a ripoff of Pak Victor deThouars Tongkat which is based primarily on Sera. Oh but then add Kaballah (?) as well.

I dont know anything about the guy. I've read a bit about silat and know its a bit of a catch all name that covers a whole bunch of stuff. The reason Im asking is that one of his instructors is based near me and I thought I might ask peoples opinions before I decided whether or not I'd check it out. So can you specify why you dont think much of it keeping in mind my knowledge of Silat is gleaned from a few articles.
Cheers.

I’ve learnt one thing in martial arts: never ask martial arts practitioners what they think about other martial artists or other styles. It’s a waste of time. Check it out for yourself. You might find it interesting or you might find it ridiculous but at least it’s gonna be your own judgment.

Although what I said was true (I study Sera) I agree with George. I'm not going to comment on the content only it's obvious (and unattributed) origin. Check the guy out. If you like it then my opinion won't matter. Clearly I'm a partisan and you should make your own judgement. Good luck.

William Sanders? Rip Off!!! Go to his site at www.cimande.com and you will see a lot of crap there!! Pay attention particularly to his so called certificate from Cimande village. Adobe made? No reference number on the certificate? PHONY!!!

Dear John Bald,

If you bothered to extensively purvue Pendekar Sanders' website, you would see a picture of each of five different officials from Tarik Kolot signing the certificate, as well as a picture of Pendekar Ma-ma Sukarmo holding it. He also has a certificate form Pendekar Banten which I personally saw recognized by the Indonesian Consul of Chicago in the 1990's.

I sugest you get your facts straight before you start shooting your mouth off. Instead of swallowing hook line and sinker what you've been told (I'm sure your ego is invested in it up to the hilt)open your eyes.

P.S. "Buddy"

If you listen to the deThouars you're going to get alot of bad attitude about Pendekar Sanders. In the early eighties he learned some stuff from them, but he has learned from what he considers to be more impressive sources. And he is 100% open about what he learned and from where. You should ask yourself why the deThouars family is so against Pendekar Sanders.

It's not my policy to disrespect any style or Master in print, but I must point out that if you visit Pendekar Sanders' website you will find a solid refutation, from Indonesia, on alot of the stuff that the deThouars claim to be true. Pendekar Sanders has done his homework. The information on the Badui having a martial art is particularly interesting.

I think that if someone likes the deThouars stuff then he should train it. Attacking Pendekar Sanders will probably contribute nothing to your development as a warrior.

If you want the facts directly, check out www.cimande.com

Caveat emptor.
BTW "Ted", the name is really Buddy.
Hey whatever happened to your Guru Besar? Of yeah he quit and went to Pekiti Tersia.

Who exactly are you, and who have you been talking to? "My Guru Besar" lost all his credibility in Pukulan Cimande Pusaka, and let it be noted, I quit HIM back in 2000. He can't show his face in our circle any more due to the years of outrageous lies he fed us all. His departure is a blessing, not a stain on our art.

I have a certificate signed by him making me a Guru in Pekiti Tersia back in 1996. I guess the certificate will now have some validity.

I think that anyone who wants to make negative statements regarding Mr. Sander's ability should at least have the guts to fight him. He's had a long standing offer to "cross fists" with ANYONE who is game for it. If he is supposedly so inept, why don't you guys back up your accusations and insults with your own skills and courage? The answer to the question is obvious: because the guys who hide behind message boards while they launch personal attacks have niether skill or courage. Guys who are afraid to fight the people they criticize(and you know that you are, really)are the true cowards of the martial arts world. Not only do you START trouble, but instead of finishing it you just hide, and then make excuses such as "it's not worth it". If it's not worth it, then why even open your mouths in the first place? The best part about guys like you is how you turn to jelly when you have to back up your own mouths.

My you fellows are timely. It's always handy when you ask questions and then supply the answers, saves a lot of needless writing. Mmmmm jelly.

I've been told "cross fists" is a term used in hard core gay porn.

hmm... well your social circle must consist of avid hardcore gay porn watchers

By Bob #2 on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 05:02 pm: Edit Post

so. if you had friends, some of them might enjoy different types of pornography, and maybe, if you were cool, they'd feel comfortable enough to joke with you about such things.

IF Robert HAD any friends;
pornography would not be the only different thing, that they enjoyed.

seems obvious. but if that's supposed to be funny, i don't get it.

well on that one I came from nowhere and brought it with me.

I say things and I don't understand them either. It must have been the Chi talkin'

I did however want to be clear on this disclaimer
The statements and opinions made by Tai Chi BOB on this discussion board do not reflect the thoughts and feelings of Shen Wu as a whole and sometimes not even of Tai Chi BOB himself

I trained for a few months with the "guru besar" mentioned above. What he taught in his school seemed VERY effective and I wouldn't want to mess with any of the instructor level people. But it also seemed very unstructured and non-methodical, which I felt made it difficult to learn the art. I don't know how much of what I learned was William Sander's version of Silat and how much was pekiti tirsia, but I would suggest that it is worth checking out. I did have a problem with how aggressive the students were and the mysticism, but both seemed optional for each student. In one seminar I learned how to properly feed a kris knife and I had the opportunity to purchase a talisman after it was all over (no thanks). The mysticism stuff seemed to be optional, but it sure attracted a lot of crazy students that didn't exactly make great training partners (just the lower level students). But it was certainly better than the other silat teacher I had that was trying to make me into a muslim. I did think both schools probably taught the most effective martial arts that I have had any experience with. I actually am trying to get in contact with one of Mr. Sanders instructors that teaches fairly close to me, but I will be asking a lot of questions before I get involved.
