Hey anyone know where I can learn a bit about the chinese steal whip, here in L.A. I am interested, and it's hard to know who to trust, and if i don't find a teacher, i think i'll get a video and open a school of chinese steal whip, you know for the kids.

The National Wushu Training Center in Huntington Beach may teach it. I've seen a demo by some of their students and one of the chicks performed a steal whip routine.... it was cool.

You could ask RD. He seems to have video tape learning down to a science. Maybe you can just buy a video of steel whip training and then go to one of those leather clad "mistresses" with the whip and she can correct your mechanics.

I assume you are talking about the nine-sectional whip?

Where are you located? There is another Wushu center in Palms, near the 10 and the 405. I'm sure they have people to teach the weapon.

There's also Beijing Tai Chi and Kung Fu in Santa Monica (they are on the web at beijingkungfu.com). I learned nine-sectional whip from there.

Question is... do you just want to learn a form? If so, then these people can help you. If you actually want to learn weapon fighting, there aren't really many people around who do that. There also isn't much point in it, but that's another issue.

If it's 9-section whip and not the solid bian he's talking about, one safe way to learn the form is to do it with 2-section dog-chain rather than 9-section whip.
