This is the last post from Nick, a student of Mr. Kwan.

Subject: Dao Yin Seminar
The next Kwan Saihung seminar date is for the 24th of September and it is going to be
on the brain.
That one is the 49 exercises for regular maintenance.
It will be held at the Living Seed, from 11:00 to 4:00 and the cost is
$85.

Also, I wanted to know if some of you were still interested in coming to the
Berkshires for review
classes once a month.

Thanks,
Nick

Since 1997 when I first red "the Wondering Taoist"
I looked for Kwan Saihung everywhere on the internet. Now I think I found him,,, but only on this forum. I am from Roumania and since 1997 my dream in this life is to find Kwan Saihung to learn from him. I can not say how glad i am now when I read this lines where the main subject is Kwan Saihung. If Gods from haven have permited to us, the humankind, to read the book "The Wondering Taoist", that means The Gods had a reason for this, and this reason is, from my point of view, to search, to fight for finding Master Kwan Saihung and to obtain enlightment in this life. It is a great oportunity for humankind to have such a great master, such a great man. I want from all my heart to be the student of Kwan Saihung. I hope my dream will become true... someday. I hope that day is not so far...

Arthur,

Sorry to tell you this, but the "Wondering Taoist" are fictional stories.

Kwan Saihung never really studied with any of the masters in the books, he's from New York.

ARTHUR,
your email wouldn't work for me.
May I ask you did you red the book about him in English or Roman language?
What languages do you speak? English, Roman, Hungarian...?
It is clearly true that the person you are looking for is not a ghost.
I hope you can find your true Master.
I wish you everything you really want - all the bests!
W. Z.F.

I just finished reading Chronicles of Tao and regardless of the truth within the fiction, I think it's important to remember that even Ben Franklin's autobiography wasn't entirely true, and that there is a bit of truth to everything false.
Personally, I think the story is either very close to being entirely true, or Deng Ming-Dao is a wonderful writer with enough talent to make me, a sceptical journalist from New Jersey, a believer. If that's the case, I'd like to learn from him.
Even if the stories of Kwan Saihung are not entirely true in every aspect, what is? This is the Tao afterall.

I completely agree with you. I liked the books. I liked how he explained the sweat and soul of kung fu. The mingling of the mystic, classic and combative is dead on. I also liked how he never used his knowledge to compete in UFC type tournaments or any other finacial hype/entertainment/sports. True or not, the books literally smell authentic.

As to books having an "authentic smell" ... A famous author (can't remember who) once wrote; "There is a world of difference between reality and fiction; for one thing, fiction has to be logical."

On the other hand, modern students (especially the middle-class ones) tend to have a hard time separating what they want to believe from what is actually taking place.

All the more reason for any martial training environment having at least a little sweat and discomfort. Makes it more like life and less like a bad re-run of an episode of Kung Fu™.

Got to have sweat and discomfort to grow.

Point well-made.

My name is Joseph Evans; a student of Eric Knight, who was trained by Dr. Wu of Worthington, OH. area. I've been in practice since 1989, and can say to anyone out there that Kwan Saihung is for real. Eric and I trained with him in Milwaukee, and found no falseness to him. Mr.Kwan's Gung-fu is real. Wu family gung-fu carried on through Eric is real. I am in the Cin. OH area, and will be glad to physically interact with anyone to spread real gung-fu teachings. Yes Mr. Evans Mr Kwan is a man but who and what he teaches is seriously suspect. I was in milwaukee and by chance when did you see him? was it with Michael colemans group? I have first hand seen Mr Kwans students "Nick" being one practice routines that are in part or goodly chunks the synthesis of other routines or styles and I have verified this through no less than five differing scources that do not even know each other and have no contact with each other. Moreover I was more than interested about a man who has a practitioner pick up a bug from the training surface with utmost care and then allow a ego inflated beginner challenge Mr. Coleman to a fight in front of a room of people while lecturing not 10 Min. previous about sincerity and not standing on ceremony and the importance of using the mind and body in constructive ways, not bing foolish in violence. Odd no?

Mr. Kwan isn't personally responsible for anyone else's behavior, (foolish beginner)and obviously the beginner didn't get the lesson taught 10 mins prior. It is a wonder Kwan consents to teach at all.

Is the traditional taoist religion dying or flourishing these days? It really troubles me to think that we are losing this art. Also, is anyone aware of any taoist masters other than
Kwan Saihung in the United States? If so please comment back.

Liu Xiao Ling teaches the wudang and other martial arts in the Maryland, D.C. area. Its not as obvious from his website, but he loves XingI! And he studied Shuai chiao from one of Tong Yhonyi's students.
check out http://www.wudanglongmen.com/

w/ enough money and persuading Bob#2 might teach you levitation skills and cosmic this and that, but I doubt it.

Hello everyone
I'm glad to find people looking for Mr Kwan. All the stories are real. I have looked for him for the last 16 years. It's becuz of the books that i have found my master in my country. My Master has verified Mr Kwan is for real thru the website from the pictures of Mr Kwan. The projection of Chi of Mr Kwan puts him at a very high level. My Master says he's there. My Master teaches real Qi gong for the last 35 years. He comes from a long line of Taoists too. I am fortunate to be under him.
To learn real qi gong is difficult, Opening the front and back meridians are extremely difficult. We all have read the first book. It took Mr Kwan 9 months in a cave. I guess lots of people think the stories are not for real. But then My Master has demonstrated Iron Palm to me. It's a deadly martial art.

The only way to open up the meridians would be from the projection of Qi into the student's dantian and the student would be able to open up his own in days.

If anyone is interested or have met Mr Kwan, please email me. I'm interested in meeting him before his time is up but then it depends on my destiny.
