I was wondering if anyone had an opinion of the skills of bajiquan or experience with any of the modern day masters.
I trained under one "modern day master" in china. He coughed a lot. He liked to smoke. He didn't take me or the other westerners that he trained very seriously. My knees and ankles started to hurt after a while of doing all that stomping on cement, so I went the easy way out and started doing san da instead.
the style is pretty cool though, as CIMA go. If you have an actual master that you can train with, it's a unique oppurtunity. The art is like totally unheard of in the west, and very well respected on the Mainland.
I have seen Baji Quan demonstrated only a couple of times, and by extremely well practiced people.
It is an awesome style. But try and find someone that really knows it is going to be very hard.
There is a guy; Tony Yang in Ohio(I think) and he is very good
Achilles and Alexander could have taken the easy way but then we would never have heard of them!
To be fair to jason, the stomping in baji can lead to serious injury in the foot and in the base of the spine if not done carefully.
Though, even if you do it correctly, it still hurts until your bones strenghen.
Jason, I have been in the mainland for a year and a half now. Could your teacher be any one that i have met?
he wasn't my teacher for more than a week. I didn't really care for him, but he teaches at the Siping Shaolin MArtial Arts academy up in Ji Lin province.
