I have reviewed most of the 55 videos by this fellow and friends which are posted on 'you tube'. To my limited knowledge, they seem to have some actual understanding and skills of their arts. Anybody know more about him/them or have have direct experience with them?
I've heard he knows his stuff. I dont know him personally, but word around the city is that he has a good foundation.
Black Taoist (Novell Bell) has had the great fortune to study with some legit old-school teachers in NYC. What I have seen of his stuff is very good. He certainly seems to have a better grasp of Baguazhang then a lot of the "masters" out there.

Has anyone bought any of Novell's books?

The price is a little much for me to justify unless I know it is a really good book.
Richard: I don't know about the book but 3 days ago I got his DVD 'Method of Ba Gua #1' and it's a disappointment. I have been following the clips on You Tube for the past month and there was some pretty good stuff. Seemed to be ten times more and better stuff of his on You Tube than on the DVD. Perhaps the rest is on his other item. Also there was almost nothing of the advertised asian instructor who looked so good on You Tube.
Further, they appear to have given me some BS which I didn't appreciate. I ordered it on or near New Years. On January 16th I emailed them and asked when I should expect it to arrive. They responded that it had been shipped the week before. When it arrived, the postmark was the 23rd.
What would be very good would be a production of 'Rudy'. While Bell is good he just keeps showing variations of the same thing. In the video clips of Rudy, he discusses principles which to me, are of much greater value.
Richard: Note This was not the 'Piercing Palm DVD but the general Ba Gua one.
I saw this video clip and thought I would share it on this thread since it was a discussion of Black Taoist BGZ.

Apparently it is an advertisement for a seminar Hill and Bell are doing in March. Anyone in New York want to attend and report back to the boards?
i like the black taoist and i enjoy watching stuff by that one dude sifu rudy, those guys are really good. But the only thing that is starting to annoy me is that kung fu/ thug crap, i dont think it mixes well. martial arts is more of an escape from that stuff for me.
i guess people just gotta be themselves though.
sifu rudy is comming out with some dvds on the internal arts pretty soon. he already has a push hands dvd and a book on internal martial arts for fighting.
funny stuff:
