The ideal wrestling build

Tim's Discussion Board: Qi Gong / Power Training : The ideal wrestling build

Based on my experience the best wrestlers are a little shorter than others in their weight class and have a thick build. So if two guys weigh 180 the naturally thicker one will probably be better than the lanky 180 pounder. We all have to deal with the genetics that mom and pop gave us. So if stockier guys are better than their less dense counterparts(assumption) than the best exercises to do would be those that strengthen the core.
"have strong legs, back, abd neck. Be like the bull"-Timothy's quote.

I'm not saying a skinny winnie can't master the big bull but the skinny winnie will have to drink many protein shakes and practice a lot harder. If you disagree I'll have you wrestle with the ghost of Andre the Giant.

Discuss.

That's a myth.

Very hard to say since there are weight classes and wrestlers come in all shapes and forms in each division.

John Smith---one of the greatest lighter weight wrestlers...very slim and more lanky that stout.

C. Sanderson---taller than most and leaner, long limbs.

Dan Gable---very average

Mark Schultz---short and squatty.(former gymnast)

Dave Schultz---lean and lanky

Wade Schalles---average to lean

And just look at ALL of the former wrestlers in MMA. How many fit your description? Jon Jones? Lesner? Matt Lindland?

anthony Robles....missing right leg! Grip of death from what I understand. Stud fights at 125# and benches over 300#!!

As the Might Archer stated, there is no single mold.

The one thing in common: excellent strength to weight ratio.
