My workout to train for an upcoming tournament

Tim's Discussion Board: Qi Gong / Power Training : My workout to train for an upcoming tournament

This is just the power aspect of training for an upcoming wrestling tournament.

I've been doing one legged squats, one armed push ups, abd various Fu hu gong exercises for variety and for stamina. I also do kettlebell swings and Turkish get ups.

On opposite days I'm also going to start deadlifting. I do nei gong to warm down and stake standing.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

The most important part of my training routine is getting fanned by two beautiful women while the rest of my harem tells me how awesome I am. Without this confidence booster I would just be a regular wrestler.

With the women and the exercise I am a firm believer in having recovery time. Doing squats and dead lifts might be a bit much? If you have a woman sit on your shoulders for one of these exercises then that should be enough. The stake standing I don't think it's my cup of tea

Squatting AND deadlifting would be a lot. Doing only one of them is fine I think.

I try to alternate days and exercises. For example I don't deadlifting and do one legged squats cause they're similar exercises. If I deadlifting one day I'll also do one armed push ups. The next day I'll do kettlebell sexercises with no heavy lifting.

Ive recently become a huge fan of Pavel Tatsuione's books. His basic philosophy is sound. Do one or two big exercises because that will work out your whole body(there's that while body power development idea in action). This cuts down spending tons of time in the gym and leaves you more time to do the conditioning of your activity which is wrestling in this case.

Deadlifting, squatting, presses, catches are all good to develop strength from bottom to top. One armed push ups and one armed squats, when you don't have weights around, are great whole body exercises to do unil you hit the gym again.

Fu hu gong, which are really just wrestling exercises, are what I do specifically for wrestling conditioning. The other stuff is to have a strength base.

I was at my friends gym yesterday and saw a lot of guys pimping iron. It reminded me of my early days working out with no goal in mind except looking studley. Now that I'm wrestling I can focus.

I've started doing hsing yi nei gong again and am loving it. The benefits of it are much greater when working out as opposed to JUST doing nei gong. I use many of the exercises to warm up and cool down. Most of the time I spend doing weightlifting is doing nei gong type calisthenics to keep fresh and to keep mt joints well oiled in between sets.

I used to love stake standing and did zhan zhong for 20 minutes a day. I started getting back into it after hurting my ankle and found it to be annoying. Instead of doing it right after class or a work out I'm going to do a little before I go to bed or when I wake up in the morning.

One sad thing I've noticed is that the more physical exercise I do the less traditional Kung Fu forms I do besides the shuai jiao ones which I do fast and as nei gong. Being physical is much more rewarding skill wise and mentally.

Pimping iron, looking studly, and zhan zhong should be good enough.
