Shuai Jiao Belt Snapping

Tim's Discussion Board: Qi Gong / Power Training : Shuai Jiao Belt Snapping

Hi I was not sure where to post this query as its ref Shuai Jiao Belt Snapping
Does anyone know of Shuai Jiao Belt Snapping drill or drills ? Please could they explain/elaborate what it is?
I was shown you hold 2 belts together at either end and snap out in opposite directions punches/throws etc. each hand in opposite directions using various drills, but this was hearsay and not a formal introduction in training a specific martial art syllabus

I've been using a few leather suede cuttings tied in a knot, then I practice various drills say Hsingi beng chuan, or pao chuan while holding the belt so it suddenly stops the arms and the belts snap together making a loud snapping noise, or a Yichuan fali say choping both arma in opposite directions, also tried cun jin sudden inch explosive relase while holding the belts and snapping out over an inch of play while hold the belts

I've noticed it gives a quick workout and the results you can feel after relatively short period (well I can feel them as I appreciate my level is very low) that you get some muscles pumped and tendons feel worked out... seems to mostly train/condition body for explosive opening movements and the hands for holding, maybe also conditions calm mind when the belts snap

Anyhow I ramble and maybe I don't know however.... has anyone else any knowledge of this training ? I would appreciate your sharing of knowledge

Kind Regards

Belt Snapping is a shuaijiao training method.
It mimics when the throw's in progress, the angle, hand positioning (pulling left/right based on sensing of opponent's counters) etc to complete the throw.

Check out Tim's new book on shuaijiao training methods. A great resource!

Thanks Stan

I've ordered Tim's new Shuaijiao book hoping to get it in the next few days. Its cool that we all have the likes of Tim translating these great book for us Westerners, it's really appreciated.

I've found not many people now about belt snapping, I was shown a simple drill and I also do my own drills... I find it good for getting the work rate when you have not much time, and it definately does something as per my original post

Kind Regards

Jay

In Tim's new "chinese wrestling " book there is a chapter on the "short braided rope". It seems very similar to belt snapping and really seems to work stretch, strength, timing and balance. Such beauty in simplicity. I wish we had known sooner!

Hey guys...the braided rope idea is good, but really only after you get the concept of belt cracking.

Here's how to start:
fold a belt (judo, karate style belt) into three sections...

step into a horse stance and snap the belt right below the waist parallel to the floor

bring one hand up diagonally towards opposite shoulder and snap the belt...no cheating

bring the hand that's at the shoulder down to chamber and the bottom hand snaps at the opposite shoulder...repeat these steps

Don't lock your elbows...
Don't do it for over 5 minutes a set
alternate days, don't practice this consecutively.

Your bodywork will improve greatly.
