No, not in a physical confrontation! In their writing! I was wondering if anyone owns books by both authors and could help me with which one I should buy. Are there a lot of martial arts specific moves in "Dynamic Strength" or should I just go buy "Push Yourself to Power?" I'm a martial arts guy, so I would gladly spend the extra effort getting the Harry Wong book if I knew it would be worth it. Thanks for the help.
The exercises in Harry's book have more of a direct application to martial arts techniques.
Pushing Yourself to Power has a greater range of exercises, and includes other types of exercise besides dynamic tension.
Thanks for the insight, Tim.
Shouldn't it be Peter Johnson vs. Harry Wong?
Peter Johnson the web programmer, Peter Johnson the journalist or Peter Johnson the competitive marketing expert?
I completely agree with Tim. I have both books and "The Magnificent Seven" by Peterson. Both authors know their stuff, but Peterson is definitely a Physical Culture expert who writes about all the types of bodyweight training. Wong's book has less exercises but are all a little more martial arts oriented. I read one review of the book that said Wong just covered the exercises standard in old school San Soo.
I just scored the last reasonably priced "Dynamic Strength" on Amazon.com, so I'll let you know!
is it worth bying?
i'm not being a dick!
YET!
Maybe not, but you seem to be putting some effort into it!
one line and you hate me already!
i guess our reputation really precedes us!
but don't be one yourself,i have a trademark on that!
ps. you miss the point,"is it worth buying?"
i'm not messing with you,i like reading
and i'm always looking for new stuff.
I know but I had to kid ya back, man. I'm the same way about learning. I'm not even a hard style guy, but I can't resist the idea that there's information out there that I might be able to use. Check out Peterson's website, by the way. He has lots of excercises and even a link to a pro wrestler's old workout book that has a lot of great stuff.

pro wrestler's old workout!really?
i always wondered how they inject roids and
act like they are so good at fighting!!?
thanks i'll be right there?
ps that site took too long to download(i mean 30
sec or more, and i gave up,and i've been married 3 years can you believe that?hahaha)
i have a degree in sarcasm!(keen irony)
To those who are reading this thread and don't know( Oh! That would probably be you, Marc)Antonio Rocca was a pro wrestling legend of the 60's and 70's when wrestlers were athletes, not freaks. The self defense part is pretty old school( Rocca in a business suit getting tossed around by lady in a skirt!), but the weight free workout is great.
You should show your wife the hip toss page, Marc.
she toss me around enough as it is!
ps.you know there is weight training books
now that are more recent and backed up by scientific studies!
go to westsidebarbell.com by louis simmons
you can get their entire training for free,
go under archives.
do you have hulk hogans book?
he was around in the 60s!
Wow, Marc. I'm honored. All the threads on this site, and you've picked mine to test your stand up comedy skills. That's great.
hey dude!
i test my comedy skills in all the threads!
don't feel special!
but i think you should look up some stuff;
like super training by Mel Siff and more.......
i'm sorry pro wrestlers didn't win my heart!
i can barely watch a movie with all the fake , so pro wrestling is not my thing!
but if it was so real.
then how come they didn't call it fighting?
ps. who likes fighting?
exept the romans and before,
up until now?
i guess people like fake now!
( all the idiots that like wrestling now a days)PRO!!!!!!!!!
Wow. Well, I'm pleased that you are also willing to display your formidable debating skills here in my thread. That's great. Grammar could use a brush up. But I'll try to respond as intelligently as I can...Marc, please take your poorly worded, unwanted opinions somewhere else. You're just another sad person who amuses himself, and only himself, by being argumentative and nasty in an arena that is anonymous and unmonitored. You're embarassing yourself and you're abusing a forum meant for people who are trying to learn. There. I gave it my best shot.
that's all you got,you educated english
man?i've been speaking english for only 5 years.
so,i do my best!
in your thread?????
i'm not sure this is your thread!
and no one but me seem to give a crap about
your boring !
so maybe you should thank me instead!!
Well, since it's called "Tim's Shen Wu Discussion Board", and Tim has responded to my post, I'd say somone with an expert opinion is interested and that's more than enough for me. For the record, I'm an American and I'm not all that educated. I just conduct myself respectably in a forum that's read by my fellow martial artists. You should do the same.
since you can't stop me from giving my unwanted
opinion!want are you gonna do?
hey, don't listen to me and keep learning
pro-wrestling!maybe your DDT will get better,
and your faking skills will get as good as your wife!
she told me,she was faking!!!!
I have no intentions of stopping you from embarassing yourself. You're doing so well, I doubt I could stop you.
I'm waiting for Meynard the attack dog to tear into Marc Durst...
Well, I have the book. I probably could have done without it. But it's still an interesting thing to read a martial arts book written before the arts were such a big business and the market wasn't glutted with a bunch of books written for the purpose of self promotion. He sounds like a straight up guy who delivers the knowledge well. And he looks a lot better with his shirt off than I do, so I'll give it a shot!
I too bought out one of the last sub-$100 copies of Wong's "Dynamic Strength" just over a month ago. Good stuff, I think. But I've only been doing his routine for a month now, but I think there's some improvement. I'd recommend it.
what's this? sub $100 harry wong books? i'll sell mine...who wants it?
