Wrists are complicated, and times vary a great deal. My son had a mild "buckle" fracture of his distal radius, and was back in business in 6 weeks. I had a comminuted fracture of the radius and ulna, and it was 16 months, 6 splints or casts, and two surgeries.Tendon and ligament injuries can become chronic, and last years.

If there is no obvious displacement and the pain is mild, rest it, put ice on it for a couple days, keep it elevated when you can, and wrap it for swelling. Wraps shouldn't cut off circulation; better too loose than too tight). I get good relief from Naproxen (sold as Alleve or generic). If it doesn't seem to improve, see somebody.

This isn't medical advice, but I heard once that you could use heavy lifting DURING a flare-up of tenonitis; now, I lift through episodes.

PS- Use the down-time to look at the mechanics of how you got the injury.

Hi jim,

i practice conditioning of the fist to absorb impact, some call it iron fist, basically i hit hard stuff.

but even though i do this type of conditioning, A while back i argued with a friend and took my anger out on a tree, very foolishly, i hit it full force, and im sure i broke or fractured something, on the top of my hand the bones and joints of my last 3 fingers rose like mountains, and that little round wrist bone got huge.

it took about a year and a half to fully heal, but now its back to its normal integrity. it takes a while for these things to heal, depending on the severity.

a little tip, make sure your wrist does not bend when you punxh, try to keep it as straight as possible, this way the shock will travel up the arm and wrist. As opposed to out of the wrist.

just as a chisel needs to be straight to serve its purpose.

hope this helps.

good luck.:-)
