Tim & Co.
I have been hearing a lot about BCAA's (Branch Chain Amino Acids) lately at the gym and elsewhere; especially regarding their recuperative powers in terms of lactic acid etc.
I was wondering the general opinions on these, and if people think they are worth investing in for after workout drinks?
Thanks
Jake
It's been a long time since I lactated. I can't imagine why someone would want to take something to enhance it.
(FYI- it did taste fairly acidic as I recall)

Depends on the study:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20386134
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20087302
Note that what were being measured, trial methodologies, the nature of the participants and exercise were very quite different in each studies. Also, these were aerobic studies and involve low sampling size (9-12). Also, if journal 'impact factor' is anything to go by , papers published in this journal is cited less than average (1.1) in sport medicine field (average 1.6, current highest score 4.6), which can indicate that the standard of papers in this journal is not so high. But these numbers can be very misleading; you really need to read the whole paper and make your own judgement.
Meanwhile we just have to wait for more studies to be published.
Thanks guys, but I guess I was asking about personal experience.

no lactic acid build up is the product of anaerobic metabolism, see the krebs Cycle. To reduce its build up simply do not exercise to the point your muscle are not getting enough OXYGEN.
just wondering why you would want to take something after the workout in terms of decreasing lactic acid during the workout ?
