Tim's Discussion Board: Concepts : New Idea on Training???

By robert on Tuesday, October 04, 2005 - 01:40 pm: Edit Post

jamie,

hi sorry for the late reply, there are two that i know of, pa kua is on el cajon and park boulevard, the teacher there is a student of park bok nam, i think he was trained by lu shui tan,(forgive my spelling) and there is another good place called the jing institute of martial arts, which is on commerce drive, and there they teach wing chun and i think bagua and hsing i, but i know for a fact that they teach tai chi, also with an official lineage. they have a nice website if you wanna look them up. as for judo i take that at southwestern college.
though i cant say that i am a student of tai chi, i just apply mostly book learned tai chi principles to what i do.

Thanks Robert:
I know all those places
Jing is usless for push hands, I've been familiar with Sui Fong since she was teaching the Chinese-American qigong society in the park for free.
There are two BaGUa classes on Park and El Cajon- The Taoist Sanctuary I recommend there Tai Chi and Aikido classes not there Ba Gua.
Other class is run by Rojilio I believe he also studied with My Tai Chi teacher and recently took over the Soujouns past studio with the circus group, I think he is cool.
He studied in DC and his Ba Gua is real good.
I have not been to SW Judo although I have met a few of there students over the years.
I was wondering When does SW have Judo class and who teaches it ? It may fit in my schedule

What is the point of having a "style"?

It appears Shen Wu is not a "style" but a philosophy of fighting.

This seems to be the trend with many of the "Cross-pollenated" martial arts I have seen.

This also seems to be a shift in the martial arts community at large concerning the 'battle of the styles'.

I suppose it comes down to what you want. Many who study martial arts don't even care if they can fight, they enjoy the activity. In that case, it is like Theater Martial Arts.

Comments?

Robert:
Yeah
I wont ever make it to SW in this decade
So any way maybe I'll see ya round at the HeiSei Judo Club (Chula Vista) Mat is the Sensei there he's very good (much better than Art).
You will know me by my photo attached.
I got your other thread. If you wish you can send messages directly on my profile, so as not take up space on the discussion board.
Or we could start a San Diego thread.
(Not Serious)
Thank You kindly for your response
with all my best intentions
Jamie :-)

you're near Chula Vista and you wont make it to Shen Wu this decade? How about Disneyland?

By Chadwick on Wednesday, October 05, 2005 - 10:21 pm: Edit Post

Ahh, Chula Vista... nastalgia ensues.

I remember the trip from San Diego to Disneyland. It was nothing like the trip from San Diego to Sacramento I made four different times, but still... it's toward Los Angeles.

Though, if I had known a place like Shen Wu Academy back then, I might have made a trip to visit (heck, back then I might have moved closer to train).

Yes, I see how SW is easily seen that way.
I was meaning it as SouthWestern Jr College in Chula Vista.
Your response is appropriate considering the discussion board we are on, not that any of your previous comments have not been. I do enjoy your humor. sincerely- Yes I live in the Normal Heights neighborhood of San Diego and will make up to Shen Wu in the next couple of weeks.
For this old soul Shen Wu is an E ticket better than Disneyland and I hardly ever have to wait in line.
Tim threw me O-Goshi last week with more negative G's in the air than Space Mountain, No Mickey Mouse garbage at Shen Wu and that's always refreshing. However after sparring with Tim I do sometimes have the sensation that I visited Dizzy-Land.

Goltz Judo will have a open club tournament on Sat Oct 22 in Clairemont California for anybody looking for a "new idea on training".- it is a open Judo tounament...

In short Bob#2 Yes I hope to visit Shen Wu this decade.

yet I doubt I will go to Disneyland,
unless I win a tournament (like Goltz) then you can ask me:
"Jamie you won a tournament, what do plan to do now?"
and I will say "-Go to Disneyland"
and with my skill
It may be a decade
:-) JAMIE

Wow, Clairemont. How I miss San Diego all of a sudden. It has been near 8 years since I lived there. I spent a few days at one school for Japanese Sworsmanship from which I still have a white oak sword (my favorite). That was Clairemont, CA.
Of course, I was also sleeping in my car several nights during the week when I felt like a burden on friends of mine who let me crash periodically. Ahh, those were some experiences that seem so distant.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Claremont California NOT Clairemont California-
Sorry Chadwick
it is GOLTZ JUDO in CLAREMONT
near the area where Rowland Heights and Ontario are.
I mis-spelled it Clairemont which is a area in San Diego.

Disneyland Martial Arts Festival?

Well hey! I can take Donald Duck and Cinderella. So I'll have to work against Goofys unorthodox left hand grip and Pinnoccio's nose bar.
