Marc,

You suck

By marc daoust on Saturday, April 22, 2006 - 01:02 am: Edit Post

since we don't have all the time or the energy
to train all day long.
then what would you first do above all else?
-sparring?
-forms?
-bags work?
-weight lifting?
-cardio?
-drill?
-etc...
and if you could do them all in what order
would you do it?(the best to the least important)
ps.this is an honest question!and no one was insulted,or that i'm aware of!

love marc

1. sparring (only worthwhile with a decent fighter to spar)
2. cardio
3. bags work
4. forms/drills (all a form is is a set of movements same as a drill)
5. weight lifting (I only use minor weights in my training)

1.Sparring (here I agree with Shao, you need to fight someone good in order to get better, I do a LOT of sparring)
2. Cardio (I mostly use my forms for this. I will do forms hard and fast to get my heart rate up and it works a variety of muscles.)
3. Bag work ( I also will do this pretty hard and fast like a cardio workout. I will mostly do some forms then work the bag then back to forms then back to bag, etc.)
4. Weights (I use lower weights with a lot of reps)

Cardio I do running and jumprope. Of course, Sparring, bag work, and drills/forms all help cardio as well.

I should mention I also train Aikido, Muay Thai and BJJ. Here in a month or so I'm going to be solely training Muay Thai/BJJ and some MMA sparing.

sometime a bad sparring partner can be good too.
some wild beginner going crazy, can throw you
off your game,do things you don't expect on weird timings.i think the more variety you get the better,no two people are the same!
why don't you guys do heavy weight lifting?
do you think more strength will be a problem?
ps.thanks for your answers!!!

Well I do like to spar newbies sometimes just to see what kinds of gains I have made. They are usually pretty easy to read and deal with.

Personally, I don't lift big weights because I just don't want to get big. I just want to be strong. But heavy is a relative term. I am a big guy naturally so I use 80lbs for my curls and 170lbs for bench press. To some people that is heavy, to others it is light.

Somehow I think we got way off topic. So basically no one outside of Shaolin Do (on this board) knows about Liu Hsing?

By marc daoust on Monday, April 24, 2006 - 01:13 am: Edit Post

see the light,
if you are a big guy and you can bench 170lbs,
you are so not strong!(and i don't mean to be disrespectful!)
i can bench 300lbs at 170lbs and i don't think of myself to be strong!
lifting heavy weights (1-3 reps max)will not make you bigger.
but what is wrong with getting bigger?it can help.
and you should work on speed strength.
it will make you more explosive!
ps.who the hell is Lui Hsing??????

Marc,

Clearly you don't read very carefully. I didn't say 170 is all that I could lift, I said I would do smaller weights like 170 for many reps. I can bench much more than that. anyway, liu hsing is a what not a who. I am done talking to you. Your English is horrible. I will not respond to anymore of your posts.

i guess you don't "see the light"after all!
why are you getting so mad about?
170 for how many reps?just curious?
ps.my life would be so empty if you don't respond to my posts anymore!???

I am a practitioner of Liu Shing Ch'uan, but I have only been doing it for say... 3 years now. My true martial art is Capoeria. What do you need to know?

By SeeTheLight (Unregistered Guest) on Monday, May 01, 2006 - 02:06 pm: Edit Post

Basically, what is Liu Shing? Is it a complete art like Hsing Ie? Is it a set of excersises to help other internal arts? Is it a set of forms? I have no clue about it so whatever you can tell me.

Thanks,

Liu Shing is a complete art however, the reason it is called "Meteor Fist" is because of the increase of weight you train with while using your arms. They used to use more more weighted 'gauntlet' sort of weapons to train with. But I have only been using short dumbells. At the moment, I use 36 pounds of weight to punch a normal fast punch. But, it also has original moves, but is very similiar to Hung Gar, or Mei Hua Quan. I started training with a Liu Shing master because I thought it would compliment my Capoeria.

Very interesting Tal Pak, thanks for the info. Is there a web site I could check out? So you punch while holding a dumbell? Do you use the weights through the entire form/forms? Is it mostly a hand based art or are there kicks also? Sorry for all the questions I am just very curious. I do a lot of Hsing Ie and wanted to know about Liu Shing. Where is your school located?

Thanks,

I'm afraid there isn't a website you could go to. Yes, you hold the weight during all forms. Although, in practical sparring you take off the weights and when you do this, your arms are many times faster than usual. Now to the kicks question, almost all of Liu Shing is done in a few different very low stances. There are times when you must use high stances, but this is mostly not used. Kicks aren't unheardof, but used sparringly. The art of Liu Shing Chuan was founded in the Wudang Mountains along with many other martial arts, but the school moved from there many years ago. There are quite a few schools of Liu Shing in China. I know of none in the USA or elsewhere. Our school is 'Liu Shing Chu'an Zhe Jiang' Also located there.
