Both of them are good fighters, and definitely more focused and calm then the other guys.

I hope Luke can handle Joe's very good grappling. Maybe if it is a fabulous three round fight both of them will get contracts. They are both very good.

Diego Sanchez is a very fierce fighter at 170. It is funny that he was fighting up a little in the 185 group during the Ultimate Fighter show, and his finale fight was against a guy that was fighting up to 185 from around 140lbs. That could have been a great fight since both of them are skilled grapplers, but Diego was able to easily overpower the other guy.

Cool.
I agree Luke and Joe both have futures in the UFC.
It does make a good bout their personalities are almost polar, Joe the ancy, impatient, bored, impulsive dye my hair white.
and Cool hand Luke quietly centered and calmly enjoying his comic books, I just have to smile and route for the tough guy that cultivates a nerdy persona.
Joe is very aggressive and an impressive grappler hard to beat
I do like both of them
I anticipate an excellent fight-
and it could be a win-win 3 rounder

I just finished watching the finale. All good fights. Kenny Florian looked really good in his bout against a great striker. Rashad used those quick hands to nail the bigger guy with some awsome punches. And I was not suprised that Joe beat Luke, but Luke did really well in that fight.

Rashad is from my home. I trained with him last month. It was odd knowing the results of the show before it aired. I wish I could of worked on his submissions more, but he did ok without my help.

He got a long way with just basic wrestling and boxing. It's a tough combo, but he needs more MMA support to go further.

what it looked like on saturday night was anaerobic endurance. He needs some more sprint intervals or high intensity circuit work. He just totally ran out of mustard. I'm sure part of it was wrestling someone 50 lbs heavier, I won't fault him for that, but it was sad, watching Rashad, who was so much more dynamic, just kind of stop halfway through the second round.

Rashad did wonderful, he was tired but so was Brad look at the tape while they are waiting to have the winner announced both are breathing heavy. They both gave it their best with the tools they have and Rashad has strong boxing and wrestling skills a very solid foundation for MMA. Afterall when you get down to the brass tacks it is all variations on boxing, and wrestling to be very broad in generalizing.
Rashad is a tough cookie that has a future in UFC competition, Brad on the other hand is pure brawn at this point and it will be interesting to see him fight some trained and experienced fighters his own size.
I must applaud Rashad for his little bit of showboatin' rockin' back and forth chicken George walk, I appreciate him being himself- I do not see it as much as poor sports with him as it is a enthusiastic motivator for him. Boxers do this for psychological reasons Sugar Ray Leonard and his wind up, Mohammad Ali with his shuffle step dance and others.
I believe his heart and ability are great ambassadors for any sport.
I am happy for him and hope to see him fight some #205 ers, a very ruff divison, and with most of my favorite personalities- Rashad is a perfect fit.

There has been some negative critics about Rashad's conditioning. I have to ask those critics if they've ever been in the clinch against a former football player that outweighted them by 40lbs and had 8 inches of leverage advantage?

I have! It's not pretty!

I don't care what type of conditioning you do there is nothing like that weight pressing against you, along with the tension of the world watching and maybe your entire future on the line.

The clinch alone is very tiring. Add 40+ pounds and the skill of an ex-football lineman pressing in to you...that's a large task.

Rashad did lots of interval training. Running hills, steps and wrestling/boxing drills.

Rashad did great.
he pushed himself to his limit, and that is always tiring.
He rocked Brad hard at least twice and took some good shots himself.
there are always critics to run their mouths more than their own bodies.
The bottom line is he was in good enough condition to win this one and that's all that counts.
Where do his critics stand in the UFC?
Just wondering?
If he needs to be in better, leaner, lighter condition for his next fight well then I believe he has the ability to succeed in that- if that is what he wishes, he is an athlete and a real deal fighter.
Both boxing and wrestling require excellent conditioning and in my humble opinion Rashad did just fine- exemplified by his win.

A friend of mine sent me this link. I have not really dug through it yet, or know what all of it is. But there are some videos of the fighters training, i thought that it might be interesting.

http://fizogenex.com/videos/videos/

all of the stuff entitled Randy is randy couture. there's some stuff with him talking about and showing his strength and conditioning work.

Or, click on the films entitled "LauraStrapTest."

Jason is now my favorite student, and I've never even met him.

i am honored.

maybe i should look at this...

I don't know what the 'strap' is. My main interest was the strength and conditioning info from Randy. I would be embarassed if i were Randy's coach though, he doesn't really have the strictest form. I've trained myself and others for San Da, which is 2-3 minute rounds and 2-5 rounds, so our circuits look a lot different. Much higher intensity, higher % of 1 RM weight is used, and we usually use dumbbells, or one dumbbell, and there is much more unilateral or one legged work. Shorter, sweeter, and more stabilizer recruitment.
This style of circuit training, you can do 2-4 sets in less than thiry minutes. After about 6 weeks your lactic acid tolerance shoots up through the roof. Someone with a good diet and strong training history with these circuits can just go at it forever, and recover so much faster. You become a metabolic monster. Train longer, harder and outlast everyone else on the mat or in the ring. But you'll want to puke almost every workout, at least at first. It's almost always one of the first steps for GPP in my training plans.

It's what Rashad should have been doing, so he would have lasted longer. He would have easily one had he had the gas.

Rashad did win.

By Jason M. Struck on Friday, November 11, 2005 - 08:29 am: Edit Post

your right, and against someone with almost 50lbs and several inches reach. I suppose what I meant to say is he would not have had to win by decision.

By Jamie on Friday, November 11, 2005 - 07:45 pm: Edit Post

I agree, Jason.
Rashad had him a few times and was a hairs breadth from knocking him out.

UFC 63
Rashad Evans from Backarchers hometown
Jason Lambert from Long Beach

I have been a big Rashad fan on this board.
However I am going with the homeboy on this one -Jason Lambert.
