If you don't like my thread then quit posting on it. If you're going to continue with your head in the clouds talking points then be prepared to discuss whatever subject comes up.

Timber, If you're going to beat a dead horse on a public discussion forum, you can only expect comments that address it. "Head in the clouds"? LOL, You act like an expert on IMA methodology as it relates to fighting, and then you start asking how to contextualize forms with sparring on your Sun Bagua thread... My guess is you've had very limited experience with IMA as actual fighting arts, and your ideas are all theory... Save your "head in the clouds" comment for yourself.

I spent almost 4 years studying Ba gua. For 4 years I did many forms, walked the circle, did self defense techniques, two man drills, zhan zhaung in many different poses, health nei gong, hsing I nei gong. No sparring, no push hands ever. I heard that push hands was done in the "advanced class". When I looked at the curriculum for the advanced class it had even more forms! These were the "advanced forms". I couldn't believe it!

The seniors/junior teachers were very cocky as in they gave off the air that they could handle themselves in a real fight. They were bossy because of their "internal power" and because I ignores their attitudes since I was already a seasoned tradtional martial artist by the time I found the magical internal.

One day found this book called hsing I

called Hsing I Nei Gong translated by a California dude named Tim Cartmell. I mentioned the book and it was brought up that they didn't agree with his writing or with the way he performed the movements on his DVD. I just nodded because I didn't know anything about the California dude. I finished the book and thought it was amazing and discovered an interview on Tim in a book called Nei jiA Quan. After reading that I found out more about Tim and realized how full of the way of thinking in my old ba gua class. They knew the real way to do basic nei gong movements. Whoopie. But none of them were fighters albeit sport of street. Why are they mouthing off about an established author and bjj blackbelt? Insecurity and arrogance.

I'll finish with the head teacher stating his philosophy on sparring. He said that you can't spar with ba gua because ba gua is a bunch of shapes applied in different situations. You can't spar with shapes.

How long does one need to study the "internal" before learning how to actually apply it? 9 years? 20 years?

And before you start saying that I must not have found the right teacher...hold your horses. He's considered a legit teacher from a legit lineage.

I've just destroyed you in Internet combat. Fatality.

I say that with confidence because you have yet to give specifics in ANYTHING. It's always, "Well, you obviously don't find the real deal teacher. Why don't you go out and find out what real ba gua is?"

"I've just destroyed you in Internet combat. Fatality. " LOL, what are you, 12? I've given you plenty of explanations as to how martial arts are differentiated... Must have gone over your head.

I told you to go find a teacher that can show you how to fight with the art, because firstly, you obviously haven't experienced it, secondly, it's easier to understand these things through direct physical experience, and thirdly, I can't be bothered to continually spell things out for you.

To answer your last question; You can apply an IMA after a few months of proper training.

I'm not defending Ben Hill. That fight was terrible. I'm just saying he was popular locally as a Kung fu fighter a few years back.
