Of course, in the Portugese tradition of doing squats: one must also throw a sardine into the air just before rising or jumping up and catch it in one's mouth before squatting or landing. ...

We French-Canadians are more manly and use a hockey puck and make the exercise harder by doing it while having our tuques jammed down over our eyes!

How about doing squats while standing on a floating log, rolling it with your feet? Now, that would be a challenge!

Michael, you forget and perhaps do not know, that my mother is danish, and I was born there, so please, substitute sardines for herrings! We have to teach these french canadians everything....

Not only do you have to teach us everything but you have to re-train us when we get back from lunch ...

However, there's something fishy in the idea of substituting herring for sardine!

BARE FOOT SQUATS!!! I think squats, deadlifts, cleans, military press, bench, leg press are all great for strength and explosiveness conditioning in martial arts, but some martial arts will benefit alot more from certain exercises. Squats are definatly where its at and I would recommend for anyone to perform them barefoot, flatfoot, deep, low and explosive(IF IT HURTS YOUR KNEES WRAP THEM)Heavy weight is a must and weighing 175lbs and squating 400lbs(6RM) free weight is a regular thing for me. The change in my leg power and once again explosiveness has be unreal. I'm new to this page and I have a feeling alot of people on this page prefer traditional martial arts. I have trained in many and am into the MMA seen. Anyways I'm not goin to get into too much detail but there are alot of very smart and very well educated people on this page from what I've read. Just like to throw in my comment to you nice folks. Take care

Front Squats. Better. Do them after HH Power Snatch. Finish With Romanian Deadlift. Maybe one leg Romanian DL. Then go kick something. YES!

All this talk about power thrusting and snatches is indeed raising my energy levels and I must go and find my old copies of the 20 Minute Workout. That young woman could always raise my pulse in just a few seconds -- I didn't even have to exercise.

The only thing worse than a canuck, is a froggy canuck.

(Did i spell that right?)

Well, us old froggy Canucks are even worse and sometimes we smell bad but at least we can paddle a canoe and trap a beaver like nobody's business!

i'm glad that was taken the right way. I am thinking of the kids in the hall sketch now when the french fur trappers canoe up some downtown city street, and go inside an office building to club business men over the head for their suits...
